Limassol (Lemesos) is the second largest city on the island and a commercial
centre with one of the Mediterranean’s busiest ports serving both commercial
vessels and cruise ships. Containerised goods arriving in Cyprus by sea are
landed in Limassol. The city has a fifteen kilometre coastline and a number of
tourist beaches.

Limassol grew from two important city-kingdoms, Amathus to the east of the town

In January 2008, Cyprus Trade Industry and Tourism Minister, Antonis
Michaelides, signed much-anticipated contracts for the construction of a new
Marina in Limassol, valued at €170 million.
This is a project of great importance for the city, but also for the whole
Cyprus. It is the first Marina on the island to be constructed using this
method, so the experiences gained and all aspects of the preparation will act
as the basis for future agreements. The marina which is due for completion
within 3 years will be able to accommodate 1,000 yachts, in and out of the
water. In addition to berthing the marina project will include dining,
residential shopping and conference spaces as well as a green park.
Lemesos City Council formally approved the budget for 2008 which provides for
over €17million worth of spending on development works, including the creation
of more parking spaces in the city, the construction of a municipal cultural
centre, improvement of the coastal road reclamation area and the creation of
new green and park areas.
